About the Athena Award Recipients
The Athena philosophy brings into focus an outstanding professional businessperson in the community and encourages
the opening of leadership opportunities for women. The Athena Leadership Award identifies a leader (both men
and women are eligible to receive this award) for their accomplishments, for community service, and for mentoring
others. Athena award recipients are role models for others, especially women, to achieve their leadership potential.
Supporting and promoting the achievements, service, and assistance to others, Athenians will continue to celebrate
the strengths and leadership qualities that women bring to business. We recognize that women offer unique ways of
knowing and leading, as well as performing their responsibilities based upon informed experience, perspectives and
observations.
The Athena Leadership Award affirms ways women have led and continue to lead, while balancing
accountability and continuous learning into a focus for future success. This approach generates a truly profound source
of renewal, revitalization and satisfaction among our colleagues, our community, and in a broader sense, to the world.
The Athena style and substance is a focus on compassion and great optimism while maintaining a responsibility to effect outcomes
and financial efficiencies. This style has proven effective for those who care for and empower others. Strength in leadership has
come from a firm commitment to know one’s self and a willingness to connect genuinely with others. In this interdependence,
leadership creates a shared sense of purpose and a determination to support change for a greater good for all concerned.
